· Roll-DPoS consensus mechanism: IoTeX uses the Randomized Delegated Proof of Stake consensus mechanism to validate transactions on the blockchain and add new blocks. The Roll-DPoS consensus randomly selects 24 of the top 36 delegates that stakeholders have elected to add new blocks to the blockchain. The elected delegates get rewarded for adding new blocks, and they share these rewards with the stakeholders who voted for them. The delegates are changed every hour; hence, decentralization and security are achieved without sacrificing performance.
· Decentralized Identity (DID): Decentralized Identities allow people to control the information they share to manage their privacy and online identity. IoTeX uses DIDs to enable people and devices to interact across different blockchains to facilitate data sharing in a decentralized manner, thereby ensuring data privacy and security.
· Trusted Execution Environments (TEE): TEEs are isolated and unhackable security environments that run parallel with the device’s central system; as a result, the TEE environment can recognize and ignore internal threats while ensuring that the central processing system remains functional. For example, IoTeX utilizes TEE to secure its hardware while using blockchain technology to secure software. In addition, TEEs work well with DIDs to ensure privacy and security.
· Real-World Data Oracle: To ensure full functionality of the IoTeX protocol, blockchains need to access real-world information; hence, IoTeX seeks to gather physical data and make them available for on-chain smart contracts without infringing privacy. As a result, the entire crypto ecosystem can access accurate, verifiable data from trusted devices to serve all blockchains.
In this regard, the IoTeX team has created a Pebble Tracker product. This first tamper-proof blockchain-equipped device captures location, climate, motion, and light data, turning them into blockchain-readable data for training machines and triggering smart contract actions.
