What is Arbitrum?
Arbitrum is a unique Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum that aims to tackle congestion, improve transaction speed and reduce fees on the Ethereum blockchain.
Created by Offchain Labs in 2018, Arbitrum processes Ethereum transactions via optimistic rollups, which compresses blockchain data by “rolling up” several transactions to be confirmed at once. As a result, people do not have to wait longer for transaction confirmation; similarly, since multiple transactions are confirmed at once, users pay significantly lower fees.
These rollups are settled on a sidechain, and only one transaction is confirmed on Ethereum’s major blockchain. Validator’s on the Arbitrum network must stake ETH tokens to facilitate honesty and eliminate the risk of malevolent transactions.
Unlike many other Layer-2 solutions, the Arbitrum network doesn’t have a native token. Instead, validators stake ETH, rewards are gotten in ETH, and settle all transactions in ETH.

Also, Ethereum’s Layer-1 transactions cost several dollars in fees, whereas they only cost a few cents on Arbitrum.
